CPAP Machines

There are many different CPAP machines available. Which one is right for you? Good question. Probably all of them. All of the machines do the basics. Some of them have unique characteristics that may or may not be important to you. One newer modification is expiratory release (the pressure lowers slightly when breathing out – some people find this to be more comfortable). Different companies have versions of this (Respironics calls this Cflex, while Resmed calls this expiratory pressure relief).

Here are some of the common machines on the market (pictures of machines are from the manufacturer’s website):

Respironics M series

The M-series is Respironics’ newest series of PAP machines.

Respironics REMstar series

Some of the Respironics CPAP machines have a feature called Cflex. Cflex decreases the pressure slightly when you exhale. Some patients find this more comfortable than standard CPAP.

The REMstar series consists of several different models:

REMstar Basic: basic CPAP machine

REMstar Plus with C-Flex: offers humidification, downloadable compliance card, and Cflex

REMstar Pro with C-Flex: offers humidification, downloadable compliance card, and Cflex

Resmed S8 Elite:

This features expiratory pressure relief, a smart card for compliance data, humidification:

Resmed S8 Compact:

This machine is one of the smallest on the market, and is very good for people who travel frequently. There is optional humdification (therefore can be used at home, but due to the size does not need to traveled with):

Resmed S8 Escape

The Resmed S8 Escape is similar to the S8 compact, but adds on smartcard capability.

Fisher & Paykel:

Fisher & Paykel has a long history of creating humidification systems for respiratory therapy and their CPAP machines are designed with excellent humidification in mind. Their products focus on reducing rainout (collection of condensation in the tubing). Fisher & Paykel has several series of CPAP machines including:
